Waking up to a beautiful email from a beloved aunt reminding the family that today, Valentine's day is the 100th anniversary of Williard and Leona Ashton, my Great Grandparents. I immediately had questions, how did they meet? When did they meet? Was their courtship long? Who decided on Valentine's Day and everything in between? I will have to go back and reread the beautiful book compiled about these wonderful, great grandparents. I missed so much the first time or like everything else in my life, as I learn and grow some things take on greater meaning.
It also reminds me today to make sure I have recorded our courtship. As John walked in with a beautiful vase filled with roses last night I thought about all the times he was brought home flowers and the small ways he has continued our courtship all these years. It is important for future generations to know how much we loved each other.
Thank you, Connie, for the beautiful reminder today and all the work you did in compiling their history. It's a treasure that I appreciate more and more each day. I also uploaded it to the family google drive
This picture was from a year later when their first son was born, and I love the tender expressions.
My dad reminded us that it's not very often that a father can marry and seal his daughter in marriage. I love seeing their signatures. What a blessing documents are.
Happy Anniversary Willard and Leona. I can't wait to meet you and express my love and gratitude for all you have done for me.
