I recently read this quote from the book Flower of the Dusk, by Myrtle Reed. Two friends were talking about hopes and one asked the other what she would do if she could choose?
"I'd write a book," she replied, "Just a little book. The sort of book that people who love each other would choose for a gift. Something that would be given to one who was going on a long or difficult journey. The book a woman would take with her when she was tired and went away to rest. A book with laughter and tears in it and so much fine courage that it would be given to those who are in deep trouble. I'd soften the hard hearts, rest the weary ones, and give the despairing ones new strength to go on. Just a little book, but so brave and true and sweet and tender that it would bring the sun to every shady place."
It immediately made me think of my favorite book, The Book of Mormon. It always softens my heart, renews my weary spirit giving me strength to go on. It's just a little book, but so brave, sweet, and true. It brings light and peace to my life, helping me be courageous and strong.
And like the friend, it is a book that I choose to give as a treasured gift to anyone who wants to read it. One that I hope my children will find peace within it's pages as I have. A book that can change lives and bring one closer to our Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ. For this little book is another testament of our Lord and it is only through Him that we can find ultimate peace and salvation.
It is through Him that I have found peace.
Today as I write my testimony in the front pages of a Book of Mormon that I am honored to send to a lovely woman in Tennessee that I have never met, I hope that she will find added peace along her journey by the words within it's pages. Today as I think about how much this one little book means in my life and in the lives of my parents and grandparents who sacrificed so much for truths within it's pages I am so thankful for the witness that I have received that He lives.
(If you would like a copy of my favorite book I would love to send you one.... go here.)
