New Year.  New Resolutions.  Starting anew...

One of the scripture journal handouts I included in the YW packets was this "Goodly Parents" insert.  Why not start with the first verse of the first book to help illustrate the concept?    1 Nephi 1:1

I've been thinking a great deal about my own parents and all that they have done for me the last few months as I try to improve my parenting skills.  I know they have asked me not to say much here, but they are truly remarkable people.  If I can become even a fraction of who they are when I grow up, I will have accomplished great things.  Filling in the goodly parents section was easy.

Then I started thinking about our Heavenly Parents.  My mind can not even begin to understand all they they have done for me, for each of us.  As I thought about all the ways I am similar to my earthly parents, I wondered if I could a similar list about my heavenly parents.   However this list quickly changed as I thought about all that I had been taught by both earthly and heavenly and finally in the end I wrote about the gifts they have given me.  It was more challenging to write this list. It required me to really think about who I am, who I have always been, and who I am capable to becoming.

< p>It's a simple little handout. I had the paper already cut for another project so the size of this insert was dictated by that.  I left the handout more ambiguous in that it's just numbers under each heading. When I create something like this I don't want to be the one that tells you how to fill your responses. 

With our children we have tried to help guide them as they seek answers so that they can come to a greater understanding by the Holy Spirit.  That is hopefully how this handout will work as well.

I have included the basic handout, a place where you can add your own picture, some png photo corners (just for fun), and then an idea sheet (ideas of how you can fill in your handout).  

When I created the handout, I was looking for something simple that would help the girls get excited and think about how they study the scriptures a little differently.  As I was filling in my example I was surprised to find how meaningful the exercise became for me.  I had to really think about what my spiritual gifts might be and when I had seen them manifested.  I contemplated how I would like to develop other gifts and set some goal to help me.
