Before Munch's departure we did a quick recording session for an audition, I love having these recordings of her progress. She just completed her first year of University and has learned so much. One thing that I learned is that she is currently only singing with about 1/3 of her actual sound! I have no idea how that is possible because she is so loud and has become increasingly loud over the last year. However I suppose if she is going to sing over a full orchestra she has a ways to go.
The engineer was very kind, but he didn't know anything about opera so he was teasing Munch. Emily Williams was her accompanist for this recording and most of the year in classes. She is wonderful to work with and calls Munch when she gets sloppy with some her techniques.
Loved the details in the new studio. The retro accents were delightful. The lighting was horrible, but I also didn't pay attention to the lens on the camera when I walked out the door. Still happy to have captured a few shots.
Testing the microphone and such. Working on my papparazi skills.
One thing I loved about this year was watching Munch grow as a person. You see, opera, although she loves it, is hard for her. Many of her technique classes are downright challenging. Things she has never had to do before, stretching her in ways that go against her personality (her acting class for instance), but she perservered. I would ask her occastionally why she didn't chose a math or science major, she is really very good at math and science (it comes easy to her) and she would just look at me with the "I've already told you this 100 times look" and reply, "Because this is where God wants me."
I love her faith!
I am so very thankful to have these recordings during this period of absence. I love to play them and let her music fill our home again. I would love to say that it is more quiet without her, but the boys seem to fill in the extra space.
I'm including one of her pieces that she did right at the very end because she had a few extra minutes still in the studio. She was getting tired and your can hear it in her voice, although it's still lovely.

I love her comment, she is such a wise girl! I just love her!

What a cool major! I did not get to stand in the musical gifts line and, as a result, I really appreciate those with musical talent.

Definitely inspiring! I'm a singer, but I never braved the waters of real opera. Good for her!!! :-)

Wow! As a mother you must be so proud, as a homospaien you must be a fan.
Will definitely come back for a listen, and am looking forward to seeing her on stage.
