I'm in the back and it's nearly impossible to see from this distance. I hope that someone taller than me doesn't sit in front of me, it's hard to know what will happen when people reserve seats for loved ones. I begin to wonder why I came, I could have been home in my pajamas, sitting in my comfortable chair instead of being uncomfortably perched with this bird's eye view.
As I wait, I watch the different people enter and file down the isles, wondering where they are from, what their story is and how they came to be converted to this glorious gospel. I also wonder how some of those young girls dared walk out of their homes in such short skirts, barely dishcloths, let alone walk into a sacred place such as this (I'm judging I know, but it's my story so we'll move along).
Then, there is a deafening silence that fills the air and everyone seems to suddenly be holding their breath. You feel it before you understand what is happening. It's like an electrical current that moves from one person to another, charging the air with anticipation.
Then you spot him, a fragile man, taking slow deliberate steps as he makes his way across the stage. He waves as the two men flanking him watch to make sure he doesn't lose his balance. He's fragile that way, the years have taken their toll on his body, but still he pushes forward. You can tell that he won't stop working until his last breath and you smile thinking that even in that moment he might still be testifying of the Lord.
As he looks around the crowd he smiles and your eyes seem to meet. You know that his smile was meant for you, as your heart is flooded with peace. How is it possible that he saw you? You are a dot in a sea of faces, but he is here, your prophet and you know. Your connection to him is real, tangible and you are filled with immeasurable love.
You suddenly realize this is why you have come.
This is the moment that will be etched in your heart, not because of his fame, or age, or portfolio: those worldly measurements don't apply.
As you raise your hand to sustain him as prophet, seer, and revelator power courses through you filling you with the knowledge that this man has talked to God.
Tears flow freely as you realize this man will lead you safely home.
