As part of our Relief Society (women's group) activity last night we learned how to make washcloths, either by knitting or crocheting. I was able to help make the knitted samples and thought I would share the pattern here.
Unknown. This washcloth is a traditional pattern that can be found all over the internet and in various pattern books. It is often called Grandmother’s Favorite Washcloth.
Cotton Yarn (Sugar n‘ Cream or Peaches n’ Cream), knitting needles (sizes: 6 or 7 US; 4.00mm or 4.50 mm)
Cast on 4 stitches
Row 1: Knit 4
Row 2: Knit 2, yarn over, knit across the row.
Repeat Row 2 until you have 44 stitches on the needle.
Row 3: Knit 1, knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 2 together, knit to the end of the row.
Repeat row 3 unti you have 4 stitches on the needle. Bind off or stitch a round of single crochet and make a little loop of chain stitches in one corner to hange wash cloth to dry.
I was able to knit 4 wash cloths from a skein (2.5 oz) of yarn using size 7 needles with a little yarn left over to make a cute striped washcloth with all the colors.
