One thing about the girls pseudonyms that was brought up was the fact that they all had somewhat masculine names. So one of the girls suggested that perhaps the boys should have feminine names. They chose lovely flower pseudonyms for the boys, that have stuck around the house, but perhaps we will do something a little more manly here.
Rock (aka Petunia)
This young man knows more facts about everything than anyone I know. "Mom did you know that a supernova....?" "Dad, did you know that the earth's crust....?" He has an incredible memory and is fascinated with science. We thought the name Rock was appropriate.
He is our deep thinker. He ponders the universe. More than once I have found him sitting on the couch looking out the window into the unknown. He will sit there for a long time reflecting. It's a beautiful skill. His favorite TV channel is the History Channel and he loves books about animals, insects, and gross things.
He also has the most wonderful laugh and for some reason his sister Arnold makes him nearly hysterical. Sometimes he just has to look at her and will fall to the floor in a full belly laugh. One can't help start to laugh when he starts.
Tank (aka Daisy)
He is built like a tank. He is head and shoulders bigger than the other students in his grade (and perhaps the next few grades above him). Tank is our softy. He is so tender and is easily heart broken. He still cries (every time)in the movie Monsters Inc. when the little girl is separated from her favorite monster. It's very sweet.
Tank is our mechanical child. He has the most amazing ability to fix things. He will look at something, study how it works and then fix it, make it better, or just replicate it. He is currently the only person in the house that an get the transformers to and from their intended states. He loves building things and would spend his days on a project.
Tank has the most amazing ability to be friends with anyone (both young and old) he meets. Everywhere we go some stranger will come up and call him by name. He has befriended them and they are eager to maintain the association.
Brick (aka Pansy)
This blog started at the beginning of Brick's life. I had blogged prior but shut it down and decided to start again when Brick was a baby. So Brick, Dash, and Loafie have their antics chronicled here. It's a delight to go back and read about the silly things they have done. I just need to go back and add the posts to their respective categories.
One cute thing about Brick is that he is very musical. Munch as been working on a piece, "Mein Herr Marquis" by Strauss for an upcoming audition (I never would have guessed I would have a child who loves opera. She takes after her father). It's a lovely piece of music with some fun runs and such. Well we all know the words and melody due to all the practice.
One day while Brick was building his train track I heard him humming the audition piece. It was very cute to see his little head move up and down as he sang the runs (Munch is a high soprano).
Brick is our "bolter". Quite often he leaves the house without authorization. I have to keep close tabs on him at all times. Last week, when I awoke the house was still silent as all the children we fast asleep. When went about my morning routine and about an hour later Chach (my aunt who lives with my grandparents who is also my new neighbor) walks up to the door with Brick in hand and fresh tortillas (it's a rough life I know).
Apparently Brick wandered over while I was in the bathroom, asked what was for breakfast (when he couldn't find me, although I don't think he looked very hard). It was a bad mommy moment as I had no idea he had left the house. I'm considering either a security system for the house or a prisoner ankle bracelet. It's a good thing we have such wonderful neighbors.
Dash (aka Hyacinth)
He's fast. He's loves to run and is our most child most in shape. He is pure muscle. He is a delight and adores his daddy. The second John comes home Dash is at his side and stays that way (literally) until he goes back to work the next day.
Lately Dash has been talking about best friends. He will say, "Brick is my best friend." He loves his brother and will follow him anywhere. Last night he said as he looked around at our family, "Mom and dad are best friends. Munch and Arnold are best friends. Gus and Fred are best friends. Rock and Tank are best friends. Me and Brick are best friends." Then he stopped. Paused and looked at Loafie. He could quite figure out who Loafie's best friend is so he shrugged, gave her a kiss and bounded away.
Dash is also a tease. Brick was chasing him around the house, but could not catch him. Brick was getting upset, so Dash began to run in place while exaggerating his slow running, calling out to Brick, "Loooooook, I'm ruuuuuuunnnning slooooooowllllly annnnnd yoooooou stiiiiiiiilllll cannnnn't caaaaatcccch meeeeeee." Of course Brick was NOT please and tried to grab him to inflict some pain, but Dash quickly ran away and the whole process started all over again.
